There is no extradition treaty in place between the United States of America (USA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Assuming the USA requests its counterpart to extradite a Requested Person, it is likely that the UAE will consider the request based on its internal laws.
That is likely the case despite the fact that the two contracting states have signed a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). Irrespective of whether the MLAT is enforceable and in effect, the extent and scope of the MLAT differ from that of an extradition treaty.
It is preferable to understand your rights from the outset, prior to any extradition request being commenced or possibly be commenced. In the event of extradition from another state to the UAE, we may be able to support individuals or their attorneys. It is advisable not to share any confidential information before ensuring that we have completed all the internal checks necessary to complete the onboarding process (if any) for you or your client (if you are an attorney) in compliance with local laws and regulations.
